Single-Port Onlay Mesh Repair of Recurrent Inguinal Hernias after Failed Anterior and Laparoscopic Repairs

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Despite the exponential increase in the use of laparoscopic inguinal herniorrhaphy, overall recurrence rates have remained unchanged. Therefore, a growing number of patients are presenting with recurrent hernias after conventional anterior and laparoscopic repairs have failed. This study reports our experience with single-incision laparoscopic (SIL) intraperitoneal onl...

Laparoscopic Re-Do Repairs of Recurrent Inguinal Hernias Using Double-Mesh Technique

Described is a "double mesh" technique for performing laparoscopic re-do repairs of inguinal hernias. When doing this procedure, it is virtually impossible to take down the peritoneum due to incorporation of the old mesh. This technique is therefore done by using a simple onlay of polypropylene mesh, covering the hernia defect and ensuring that sufficient staples are placed into the iliopubic t...

COLLECTIVE REVIEWS Management of Recurrent Inguinal Hernias

From the patients’ perspective, the initial physical and mental investment in the operation has failed. A new inve...

Inguinal Hernias: Their Commoner Varieties and Operative Treatment

Some authors of textbooks on general surgery content themselves, in their chapters on inguinal hernias, with the generalization that there are two types of these, indirect and direct. After describing their main features, they indicate that the treatment of the former is the Bassini operation, which they describe without much detail, and, of the latter, some form of plastic repair. The student ...
